Since 1840s, Hong Kong had become one of the British strategic outposts and a pivotal port city in Asia. Before the WWII (1939-1945), the British had built coastal defence on both sides of the Victoria Harbour in preparation of a potential Japanese invasion. The history of Hong Kong during the WWII is significant to the city and the world, representing the collective trauma of people who once called Hong Kong home.
In this talk, Ir. Dr. Wallace Lai will introduce how advanced geo-spatial technology, airborne LiDAR technologies and 3D printing are employed to explore and unfold the lost WWII heritages. Dr. Chi-man Kwong will share about “The Battle of Hong Kong 1941: A Spatial History Project”. Both are contributing to archaeological investigations and historical interpretations of the WWII in Hong Kong, ultimately enhancing our understanding of the Battle of Hong Kong 1941.
